In Defense Of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. |
The Grand Rapids Times
5-2-2008
Commentary by Rev. David SieplingaRev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr.
needs defense, least of all by a white clergyman. But I have been
distressed by the pressure on Barack Obama to distance himself from
Dr. Wright and even from Trinity UCC.
I believe Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. is a great man of God – though
surely, as are we all, flawed and imperfect. And Trinity UCC is a
magnificent church.
Because these issues may continue to beset Senator Obama and because
we have been summoned to a long-overdue national dialogue on the
subject of race, I want to offer some observations and opinions.

Mother Love
Campaign |
The Grand Rapids Times
5-2-2008
Thin ‘N Noun
By Myrna Granderson
Dear
Readers,
I am so glad to speak to you via the written word. I hope all is
well with each one of you and I mean this. It is good when we can
say all is well. Even when things are not going that well we can
still say this: “All is well.”
Dear God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, thank you for a life that you have
given each one of us to live. We get mixed up many times and the
moon does not show the bread crumbs left on the path that our
fathers left for us to follow, or we went down the wrong path.
Dear Readers, don’t forget our mother love campaign. All of those
things that you would like to send out to your mother. You can write
the best mother day cards, put your heart in it and let it all out
to mother. Now I see some of you tearing up cause your mother has
died and I know that feeling, it hurts so badly.
Yet deep in our hearts our mothers prepared us for that day. When
she said, “I may not be with you always so listen to me now.” We
just did not understand the meaning of her words. So we remember
mother and all of those great things she did for us and all of that
love she gave to us. Memories never die and never will the love our
mothers gave to us. The 27th Psalm states, “though my mother and
father forsake me The Lord will never leave me.”
Mother Duck
I take my student nursing assistants group from the great Gerald R.
Ford Job Corps to the Veteran Hospital for their clinical rotation.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the Veteran grounds are very nice
and home to many ducks living and walking around you. There are many
windows in the home and you can look out and see the ducks walking
around. Today when we looked out of the window there was a mother
duck with all of her fat, brown, so cute baby ducklings. She had
given birth to 13 ducklings! Mother Duck had been the leader and the
entire little ducks waddle after her. She was letting them enjoy the
warm sunny day. Her head was up eyes were sharp and alert to any
danger that might come near her babies. It was reported that a
raccoon who lives in the area had eaten some of the other mother
duck’s eggs. The reason this duck’s ducklings survived they had the
power and clever protection of mother duck. I heard one of the
nurses say, “I would go out and take a closer look but Mother Duck
will chase you off.”
Mother Love Campaign deadline for Mother’s Day is next week. All
notes, letters must be in the Grand Rapids Times office by Wednesday
May 7th, 2008. Please write no more than three paragraphs (this will
give you a good space.) Send your favorite picture of your mother,
no matter what age. Sit down and become creative. Share with the
world your mother. Buy your Grand Rapids Times, cut out the article
and frame it. This will be for your mother and future generation to
see your mother in the newspaper.
To those who want to write a letter of forgiveness, or mother where
are you, please do so for in the end love will rule.
