KCTCC Offers Help With Getting Stimulus Payment
7,000 Households Eligible Have Not Yet Applied to Receive Tax Rebate

The Grand Rapids Times
8-1-2008

This year, the federal government passed a tax rebate to help stimulate the economy.

The Kent County Tax Credit Coalition is responding by welcoming people to a free event to help people file tax returns, ensuring they can receive the tax rebate.

A one-day only event will be held in Rockford on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the North Kent Service Center, 10075 Northland Dr. NE.

“We want to ensure that each person eligible for the rebate checks will receive them,” said Brenda Brame, program manager. Under the stimulus plan, each qualified filing adult will receive a minimum of $300.

“We also especially focused on preparing appropriate tax forms for those people who received at least $3,000 through Social Security, Railroad or Veterans benefits who would otherwise not file taxes. This year, they must file to be eligible for the stimulus payment.” Service will be provided on a walk-in basis; appointments are not necessary.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, more than 7,000 Kent County households qualify but have not yet applied for the tax stimulus payment.

The only way to get a tax stimulus payment is to file a federal tax return for 2007.

Participants must bring picture identification, a social security card, Form SSA-1099 (social security benefits statement), RRB-1099 (railroad benefits statement) and veteran benefits (Department of Veterans Affairs monthly or yearly benefit total).
