Back To School Prayer Rally, August 27

The Grand Rapids Times
8-22-2008

Grand Rapids – School starts September 2, for most school in the area, except for year-round schools that are already in session.

As summer vacation ends, one local church is inviting students and staff to go back to school armed with prayer power to face challenges the new school year might bring.

Rev. Howard C. Earle, Jr., Senior Pastor and the congregation at New Hope Baptist Church, 130 Delaware SW, are holding a special Back-To - School Rally, Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.

“We will be praying for God’s blessing over the entire 2008-2009 school year,” said Pastor Earle. “We will be covering students, families, teachers, administrators, nurses, bus drivers, and all other school related matters in prayer.”

School staff at all levels are receiving a special letter of invitation to attend the rally, and postcards are being mailed to families announcing the event.

“New Hope recognizes that we share the burden of serving hundreds of families of the city of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas with GRPS,” Pastor Earle states in the letter.

He also affirms and expresses appreciation for the leadership and commitment from teachers and staff to educate children.

By Hazel Trice Edney
NNPA Editor-in-Chief

Washington (NNPA) – When presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama promises “change”, he apparently means across the board.

Democratic and Obama campaign officials confirmed this week that neither the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. nor the Rev. Al Sharpton, two former presidential candidates and arguably the most high-profiled Black political and civil rights spokespeople in the nation, are slated to speak during primetime sessions of the Democratic National Convention, where Obama, the nation’s first African-American will receive the presidential nomination Aug. 28.

“I will attend Barack’s address on Thursday night,” Jackson said Monday morning in an interview with the NNPA News Service in which he confirmed that he will not be speaking. “I’m not a delegate. I’m not a super delegate. I’m a supporter and the DNC has issued me credentials.”
