Healthy Hearts, Healthy Eating for Life
D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare and Felpausch pharmacies and General Mills are partnering during the month of September to promote heart health. The month - long campaign will offer heart healthy assessment screenings, information about products and healthy eating, heart healthy samples and coupons, answers from trained pharmacists, pedometers and the chance to enter sweepstakes for $100 gift card to store (1 winner per location). Pharmacies of all D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare and Felpausch locations will offer the month-long program beginning September 3. 2008. Check out these locations: September 16, 2008, Family Fare, 4325 Breton Road SE; September 17, 2008, Family Fare 1415 E Fulton St.; and September 25, 2008, D&W Fresh Market, 2181 Wealthy St. SE.

Help Promote Literacy
The Literacy Center of West Michigan has scheduled two (2) information sessions for prospective volunteer tutors. These sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. and lasts one hour. It allows persons interested in becoming volunteer tutors to find out more about the Center and its literacy programs. At the end of these sessions, there will be an opportunity to sign up for tutor training. The first session is on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, and will be held at the Cascade Library located at 2870 Jacksmith Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. The second session is on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, and will be held at the Wyoming Library located at 3350 Michael Ave., SW, Wyoming, MI. Please call (616) 459-5151 (ext. 10) to register.

Walk For Kids
Members of the community are invited to Walk for Kids in support of Camp Fire USA’s local neighborhood youth programs. The walk starts 9:30 AM, Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Aquinas College, Jarecki Center for Advanced Learning, 1607 Robinson Road SE, Grand Rapids. To support this walk is to support the safe after-school enrichment activities and summer programs that Camp Fire offers for more than 2,400 low-income youth in the Grand Rapids area each year. Registration fees for the walk are $25 for individuals, $50 for family of four and $100 for team of five. Get the registration form at www.campfireusawmc.org. Auditions for “Meet Me in St. Louis”
Master Arts Theatre will be holding auditions for Meet Me in St. Louis, Saturday, September 20 at 10:00 AM and Monday, September 22, 2008 at 7:00 PM. 9 Men, 6 Women and 2 Girls (Ages 8 to 12) are needed. Meet Me in St. Louis will run 16 performances, Thurs, Fri and Sat, from November 20 – December 13, 2008. Auditions are held at Master Arts Theatre at 75 77th Street SW. Questions? Gospel Fest
Community Volunteer Agency is sponsoring an acapella gospel fest to honor the heroes of 911, Thursday, September 11, 2008, 7 to 9:30 PM, at Wealthy Street Theater. President/CEO Argie Holliman-Chibuzo is seeking soloists, quartets, choirs and other musical groups to donate their talents to make this event happen. Sign-up is required by August 15. Interested performers and people interested in ticket information, can call 616-245-6191 or contact Argie by e-mail at chibroad@sbcglobal.net. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the agency.
