Boston Square Cafe Gets Name Change And More
After being closed a few weeks for remodeling, Boston Square Café will re - open Friday, March 8, with a new look and a new name and other changes.
The owner and address are the same. Teresa Folden opened the café two years ago at 1553 Kalamazoo, Ave. SE in Grand Rapids.
She invites all to come in to for meals and celebrate the Grand Re-opening of Boston Soul Café, Friday, March 8, 2019.
The colorful logo on the window, the upgraded waiting area, newly upholstered seating — what the Folden calls cosmetic changes — all will welcome customers that dine in or come to pick up their carry our orders.
"I put up a wall, seats along the wall, painted and things like that," she said.
There have also been some slight changes on the Boston Soul Café menu.
"We added some things to the menu and we also took some dishes away from the menu — but it is still a soul food menu," she said. "I want people to also know that we will be serving soul food on Saturdays and Sundays from now on," said Folden.
Ice cream is still on the menu.
After listening to her regular diners Teresa also made other changes, such as the restaurant's hours of operation.
"We are now going to have split shift that will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.," Teresa said.
She continued, "The reason is people were saying, 'Teresa your food is so good and we tell people about your food, but the working people who get off at five can never taste your food because you would be closed. So what good is it for us to tell people about your restaurant and your delicious food?' "
She went on to say, "I saw the point that they were making. So I decided to change the hours and see how it goes."
The restaurant is also open to booking events, such as recent Valentine's Day show that featured a DJ, poet and singer.
"I want to have different events at the restaurant for entertainment where people can enjoy themselves and don't have to travel so far to see good entertainment," said Teresa. She added, "People that would like to host an event at the Boston Soul Café are welcome."
